About Portsmouth Naval Base

Portsmouth Naval Base houses almost two-thirds of the Royal Navy’s surface ships. This includes Type 45 destroyers, Type 23 frigates and mine countermeasures and fishery protection squadrons. Soon, the base will also be home to two new aircraft carriers and the biggest ships ever built for the Royal Navy – HMS Queen Elizabeth and HMS Prince of Wales. A central part of the city since 1194, the base is also one of the city’s major employers.
